Scout Sunday at St. Stephen’s Church
Scouts and leaders of Unit 305 in Kearny volunteered in the misty rain early Sunday morning, September 9, 2018, to place 300 U.S. flags around the walkways of St. Stephen’s Church. The Scouts participate in this community service project annually to help their sponsoring church prepare for their 9/11 memorial.
After the flag placement, Unit 305 participated in the annual Scout Sunday Mass at 10 a.m. Scouts led the entrance procession of colors, assisted in the Mass as altar servers, presented the Gifts, and joined in the recessional. The Very Reverend Joseph A. Mancini, K.C.H.S., V.F., supports the Scout Sunday activities in his role as Pastor of St. Stephen's Church and Sponsor of Unit 305.
For this year’s 17th anniversary of 9/11, St. Stephen’s Church will offer a Solemn Requiem Mass for the Souls of the Victims of 9/11 on Tuesday, September 11th at 7:00 p.m. Scouts will distribute programs for this Requiem Mass.
Kearny's Troop/Pack 305 was organized in 1933 and continues to provide youth leadership training to boys and young men in Kearny, Harrison, East Newark, and surrounding towns as Unit 305. Boy Scout meetings (Grades 6 and up) are held on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. Cub Scout meetings (Kindergarten through Grade 5) are on Friday nights at 7 p.m. All Kearny Unit 305 Scouts meet in Hedges Hall in the lower level of St. Stephen's Church in Kearny.
